Cut Your Credit Card into a Christmas Star

Sojourners' Martha Stewartesque, "Cut Your Credit Card into a Christmas Star" video. Very funny. They should do a whole series like this!

Debunking Health Care Myths

I just realized I have another article in Sojourners (Aug. 2008), where I (in theory) debunk conservative myths about universal health care. It goes with a feature on health care by Elizabeth Edwards.

The myths I look at are:

1) Single-payer health care is more expensive.
2) It would raise taxes.
3) Wait times are longer.
4) The government would limit patients’ freedom of choice and dictate to doctors how to practice medicine.
5) People will overuse the system.
6) People won’t have access to services they need.

Here's the article if you would like to read it for yourself.

Inexplicably...

...the short articles I wrote recently for Sojourners have become the cover story of the April issue. I'm uncomfortable pointing this out, but I think this is the first time my name has been on the cover of this magazine. (It's there in the picture above, though you can barely make it out. I'll post a bigger image when I can get one.)

It's just hitting the newsstands now, so watch for it. Or you can subscribe to this leading journal of prophetic, justice-seeking Christianity here. Or you can go ahead and read the articles here.

The Great Awakening

I don't know if it's my cold medicine or what, but I'm up late in my hotel in Winnipeg and I happened to catch my old boss and friend Jim Wallis on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Glad to see him on the show. Progressive Christian voices like Jim's really do need to get out there more. I look forward to seeing his new book, The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith and Politics in a Post-Religious Right America.
