Now Listening... Led Zeppelin I

I haven't listened to this album in many years and it's fantastic. It's always been my favourite Zeppelin work. I can't hear this album without being instantly transported back to the first time I heard it in the early 70s, laying on my bed at our house on Valle Vista in Phelan, Calif.

Led Zeppelin I will always be about the groovy feelings of early 70s California to me (especially "Good Times Bad Times" and "Your Time is Gonna Come") and the start of the P*Land skate radicals building our own ramps and shredding the local schools (especially "Communication Breakdown" and "How Many More Times").

  2. Led Zeppelin II is still my fav Zep album but the first one does have that groovy vibe. Did you hear all the hoopla about Zep songs (almost exclusively from the first album)being songs written by other artists without the artist being given credit? I heard the evidence and they definitely borrowed some stuff, but they also definitely made the songs their own and in my opinion far better. As far as the original writers not getting credit goes Zep defenders say that it was not required in that time to name an original artist and many say that their manager was responsible for them being credited with writing the songs on the albums instead. It made me angry because people were calling them a glorified cover band when the catalog of their work that is indisputably theirs still stands above and apart from the rest. I will have to pick up the digital Song Remains the Same because that one above the rest takes me back to my favorite P*Land memories. "No Quarter" is the number one song on the planet that still has the ability to totally make me feel SO stoned while being totally sober. Anyway anyone interested in the Zeppelin blasphemy should check out the scandal online. I dont remember what site it's on but there is a whole radio program devoted to it where you can hear the comparisons for yourself. Well, they will always be my favorite band. Speaking of music taking us back in time- Aaron, any Jethro Tull always reminds me of you and Aerosmith's Walk This Way always makes me think of Mickey, and the Kink's Lola and Aerosmith's Walking in the Sand always remind me of Ron Dog. Peace out
