When Salt Loses Its Savour

Great. That's all we need is for the salt to stop working. You wouldn't believe how our civilization here in Canada depends on it. (I'm speaking now to my Californians.)
Police are warning motorists to drive cautiously during this cold snap, saying road salt loses its ability to melt the ice when temperatures gets low enough. [Around -10C. As I write this it is -19C.]

  1. This is so far beyond my reality. I guess the salt thing is a little like antibiotics not working because we all use too much of them. This cold disease just might run rampant.

  2. Is that a REAL photograph?

It's only just below zero here, so hell, I'm grabbing my surf board and heading to the river!

    Cowabunga!

  3. Yes, it's a real photo, but I don't know where it's from because I found it on the Internet. But the ground around here -- specifically where we park for Amado's daycare -- looks just like the ground in this picture!
