Diamondbacks

1979 Serrano High School, Phelan, Calif. Sharon and Mickey were the hottest double-play duo in high desert softball. I'd say I'd be their batboy anytime, but that just sounds wrong. Let's just say I was their biggest fan. I believe I went to see my girlfriend Sharon in all her home games, and that's saying something since softball season overlapped with the best weather for skateboarding. (By the way, nice field girls! Now that's what I call sandlot!)

HaHa..where are you getting these old pictures? This one looks very moonscapish...it's hard to explain to people exactly how one can have such a passion for this desert....keep'um coming, Aaron

  2. ugh...how do you like that beauty school perm I had?! I had that "almost fro" for so long!!!that year was when we had to spend the first half hour of practice clearing the big rocks off of our "field". We also had no grass and no fence, so we drew a chalk mark to indicate where a homerun was! Playing outfield was VERY interesting and I learned to be pretty good at it because if it got by me it ended up on Phelan Rd!!!!!too funny...great fun!

  3. I actually thought the curls were fantastic. I loved them and they were TOTALLY the thing back in the late 70s.

...and I have never heard anybody say that playing outfield was VERY interesting. Now you have me intrigued!

  4. well, what made playing outfield interesting was a myriad of things...one of them being the aforementioned running forever to shag the balls over the head or under the glove...another was that Mickey played center field, which she took to mean that you stay in the center of the field and catch whatever comes directly to you and any ball above the head gets the glove thrown at it and any ball in any direction that she would have to move to get to would be MINE to field: including some balls on the right field side of her. I tell you what- I was never again in the kind of shape I was playing 2 out of the 3 outfield positions! We also collided on a few occasions yelling simultaneously "I got it!" I also quite frequently played under the influence of various substances which definitely kept things interesting but did not necessarily make for a better fielder! But anyhow...I've gone and said too much :)

  5. P.S. I HATED that curly hair but I'm glad somebody liked it because it was most certainly not me and I cringe every time I see it!
