East L.A., 1970

This picture from the Chicano Moratorium reminds me of the East L.A. of my childhood...in fact, it was taken right next to our friends Dylan and Jocelyn's house. Somehow, this grey colour is how I remember everything as well.

I found this in the amazing UCLA photo collection, Changing Times: Los Angeles in Photos, 1920-1990.

  1. Time must add the gray tone to our memory. It's helped along by the fact that almost all of the photos from the 60s and early 70s are in black and white..

  2. It could be that, or the fact that L.A. was really smoggy in the 60s & 70s!
