33 Months Old!

I've let a couple of months pass by, but just to let you know, we're still counting!

31 Months Old!

Our little cowboy has 31 moons.

30 Months Old!

Amado officially turned two-and-a-half the other day. The little kid is getting big! Thanks to my Mom and Irene for this great picture of Amado enjoying a new toy last week in Santa Cruz.

The Healer

Even though this rascal has made us sick by bringing home daycare germs, he's still our little healer who brings so much joy and love into our lives. This picture reminds me of the cover of John Lee Hooker's album, The Healer.

By the way, the kid is now 29 months old!

27 Months!

Amado, last night after his bath. The months are flying by (sorry, we missed the actual date of "month anniversary" again) and the kid is growing like a weed. But where he's really growing is in his head -- his vocabulary is exploding and we're surprised daily with some new word he's learned.

The next thing you know he'll be describing to us with Miley Cyrus-tears how it feels to have a naked picture of oneself posted on the Internet.

26 Months Old!

Ok, so we missed the actual date by a few days...but it was worth it so we could take this picture this morning. There were signs Amado isn't feeling totally well, but he looks great here, in the midst of wrestling with me on the couch. He's a funny little guy - that's for sure!

25 Months Old!

...and we're beginning to think he may be a human after all. Look! Art!

23 Months Old!

We're overjoyed that Amado is over his bout with the flu or whatever it was that he had. The last couple of days have seen some big changes:

• He's abandoned the bottle for the sippy cup
• The high chair is out, replaced by a booster seat at our dining room table
• We got him his own little table and chair set for Christmas (bright red!), where he can colour, build Legos, spin his tops, and generally hold court
• Today was his last day at Kids + Co. I so wish there was some way we could have let Amado know he was leaving so he could have said goodbye to his friends, Jack, Parsa, Emma, and Emily. Annie, his favourite teacher, cried when we picked him up and gave us a little present...which nearly made us cry as well. He starts at Novus on Jan. 2.

He is getting big fast, but he`s still our little boy.

22 Months Old!

Opps! Back on Nov. 28 Amado reached the grand old age of 22 months, but we were having computer problems and couldn't access our photos. It's not quite set up on the new computer, but it's getting there. So for now, you will have to enjoy this pensive shot. More to come. Promise!

21 Months Old!

The critter is sure getting big.

20 Months Old!

Amado has reached the grand age of 20 months old! It took a couple of days to get the right photo of the speedster though. And there is still some discussion in our house about whether or not this actually is the right photo. So ok, now you have the full story.

19 months!

On Aug. 28, Amado turned 19 months old! And as you can see, he's growing up FAST.

18 months!

A year and a half old and on the run! Yesterday Amado had his check up and a couple of mega-vaccinations. He knew what he was in for when we walked into the doctor's office, so he was especially wiggly. We all survived though. Here are the stats discovered by Dr. Lau:

Head: 51 cm.
Height: 84 cm.
Weight: 27.5 lbs.

He's in the 78 percentile for height and weight, which means he's bigger than 3/4 of the kids his age. And his head remains in the 98 percentile for kid's his age! Wow!

We're on the run today to Port Stanley for the 50th wedding anniversary of Wendy's Aunt Barb and Uncle Gene, so I'll update this post later.

17 months old!

...and somehow he figured out how to play DVDs all by himself. Really! Amado goes to the DVD player, punches a combination of buttons, and, presto!, his Baby Einstein DVD starts to play. I need the remote to start the DVD player, so I have no idea what he is doing. But he's done it many times. It's no accident! In fact, that seems like all he wants to do these days.

We're taking him to a swimming pool for the first time on Saturday, so I will post a better 17-month anniversary picture after that.

16 months old!

Our little boy is 16 months old today! Since learning to really walk a couple of weeks ago, things have really changed around the house. We have to watch him 100% of the time. He has learned how to climb out of our bed and go tearing around the house in his pajamas before we even wake up. He can open almost anything in the house---doors, drawers, cupboards, his sippy cup--but thankfully not his diaper. He's very funny and is always coming up with new jokes to play on us. The latest is to take a mouthful of water and shoot it out in a nice long stream. That's what happened in the picture above.

Yesterday we were meeting in a park with a group called "Parents for Peace and Justice." The parent who was on childcare duty took Amado and the other toddlers to a playground about 100 yards from where we were talking. We watched from afar as she took him on his first slide and swung him in his first swing. He looked so little sitting in that swing. It made me realize that the day is coming very soon when Amado will start to have a lot of experiences all on his own.

Babies grow up much too quickly.

15 months old!

Amadisto is 15 months old today! This week he had a visit to the doctor for some more vaccinations and a check up. Here are the stats:

Head: 49.9 cm / 19.6"
Length: 83 cm / 32.6"
Weight: 11.4 kilos / 25.13 lbs.

That's one hunk of boy.

14 months old!

Yesterday Amadisto turned 14 months old! The months are really flying by now. But where are the rest of the teeth?

13 Months Old!

I was going to stop posting pictures of Amado on his monthly birthday, but BY POPULAR DEMAND, the pictures are back! Every single day I am totally amazed at the rate this child is absorbing and learning. Look, now he's even a pirate! Eyeeee!

One-Year Check Up

Yesterday Amadisto "Booji" Sol McCarroll Gallegos had his one-year check up. Overall, Dr. Eddy Lau was very impressed with the kid, especially with his size. Dr. Lau said Amado is as big as his own two-year-old!

Here are the measurements:

Head: 48cm / 19.2" (98 percentile for kids his age!)
Length: 80cm / 31.4" (90 percentile)
Weight: 12.7kg. / 23lbs. 5 oz. (62 percentile)

We discussed Amado's sleeping problems with Dr. Lau (for instance, the kid was up and SCREAMING from 12:00 - 3:00 last night, then woke up at 5:45 this morning). Dr. Lau prescribed ferberizing him (here's one view, here's another). Let me tell you, that's going to be really hard. And really loud. Sorry in advance to our neighbours in the apartment building!

Amado also got two big shots at yesterday's check up (measles and meningitis). Perhaps that was what the yelling was about? Or maybe it's the ongoing teething? Night frights? Who knows???
