A homeless person sleeps on a grate in Toronto's theatre district. This picture is from two weeks ago when there was a lot less snow than there is now. There's an interesting discussion over on WonderCafe about what this image says about Canadian society.

this pic is sad and homelessness is all wrong...but having worked with homeless folks for sometime and helped to house many of them i need to say that there is a heavy percentage of adults-generally male-who even when decently housed will seek the streets again-generally b/c of their drug use. we need better housing and affordable hosuing ESPECIALLY for women and children. we need supports and treatment centres and more caring hearts. housing is essential-affordable housing for all people but housing doesn't cure addiction, mental health, loneliness, trauma from childhood sexual and physical and emotional abuse. the underlying factors are a big part of what keeps people homeless.
